Engineered Stone

Engineered Stone has seen a recent rise in popularity in recent years due to its simpler maintenance, natural appearance, and easier installation.  It is being used as an alternative to granite, marble and other semi-precious stones primarily for use in kitchen countertop applications.  Some of the more widely known names in engineered stone include CaesarStone®, Cambria®, Silestone® and Daltile ONE™ Quartz.

Engineered stone is composed of approximately 93% quartz and 7% resin with a pigment to create color and uniformity. It is very “user friendly” as it requires no sealing, buffing or reconditioning.  To maintain its original look you need only wipe it clean with a mild soap and warm water and the stone naturally maintains its luster.

Engineered Stone – Functional and Beautiful

It is a great choice for homeowners seeking a contemporary or modern look to their kitchen that natural stone does not convey.  From the standpoint of functionality, it is a great solution for kitchen countertops as it is non-porous and does not support the growth of bacteria, mold or mildew.  It does not stain with direct exposure to acidic or other foods and has been successfully tested against foods like wine, fruit juices, tea and even permanent markers!  Engineered stone is structurally more heat resistant than even granite and can withstand direct heat exposure of up to 400 degrees.  It is also very scratch resistant and is one of the hardest materials available for countertop use.
